Joy or Melancholy. Passion or peace. Playful or serious.
How does a photograph feel like one or the other?
Imagine a photograph of a girl standing on an empty beach with her back to the camera. Do you think she's happy or melancholy? Well, she could be either!
If the picture is shot in warm hues of reds, yellows and oranges, it'll make you think of heat, sunshine and carefree joy.
Now imagine the same photograph in shades of blue and purple. These cool colours will give the photograph an air of melancholy, wistfulness and introspection.
Amazing, right?
Now, let's talk about YOUR photography and how the clever use of warm and cool colours can take it to the next level.
Cool colours: Want your photograph to be moody or tranquil? Choose colours like blue, green and purple.
Warm colours: Want your photographs to inspire feelings of spontaneity and carefree joy? Choose warm colours like red, yellow and orange.
When it comes to ensuring your photograph has the correct palette, planning is everything. Choose a setting with the colours you want and click at times of the day when these colours are naturally present. For instance, golden hour is a great time to shoot warm photos while a cloudy day is ideal to shoot photos in cool colours. But if you can't control the elements, editing is your best friend. Adjust the temperature of a photo, its white balance and add tints and highlights to your preference in an editing app.
