Hi vivo family! 👋

Today I want to share the story behind one of my favorite photos “O-Shape”, which won the Category Winner award in the Motion Category at the vivo VISION+ Photo Awards 2024. I was lucky enough to personally receive this award in Xining, China. 🇨🇳

This photo was taken with the vivo X70 Pro+, the phone I received from vivo back in 2021. The location was simple just the riverbank in my small hometown.

I usually love shooting during the Golden Hour about an hour before sunset or right after sunrise when the light turns beautifully golden. On this particular day, it was raining a little, so I thought I’d miss that magical light. But suddenly, the sun peeked out from behind the clouds while I was shooting.

At the riverbank, children were playing happily in the rain. What caught my eye was the O-shaped wheels they were rolling around. I got close to one of the wheels and framed the children playing through it. Using circular shapes in photography is a powerful composition technique it naturally draws the viewer’s attention and makes the photo visually interesting.

With the golden light, the framed circle, and the pure joy of childhood moments, the photo became something really special. For me, it also brought back memories of my own childhood carefree, playful, and happy.

Winning with this photo showed me something important.

A good photo isn’t just about having great equipment like the vivo X Series. You also need to think about Lighting, Composition, Moment, Emotion and Storytelling. If we focus on these, our photos will always be stronger.

From starting my journey with just a phone, I’ve now been blessed to win 180+ international photography awards from over 30 countries. This “O-Shape” photo gave me not only the award but also USD 1300 in prize money, a vivo X100 Ultra phone, and my very first trip to China. 🏆📱✈️

In the coming days, I’ll continue sharing my photography experiences, tips, and techniques so we can all learn, explore, and grow together.
