Hi vivo family & friends!

Today I want to share my first experience with the vivo V40 5G, which is actually the first V series phone co-engineered with ZEISS. This was also my very first collaboration with vivo Myanmar, and honestl I was blown away.

For the first time, I could shoot ZEISS portraits (which were usually only on the vivo X series) now on a more affordable phone. Since the vivo V40 5G is available at a lower price in Myanmar, I think it’s an amazing option for anyone who loves portrait photography.

As part of the collaboration, I also gave a Mobile Photography Training to vivo Myanmar employees, and together we explored the phone’s portrait features. Let me share with you what I really liked about it.

1. ZEISS Bokeh (7 styles)

In Portrait Mode, you can now choose from 7 types of ZEISS Bokeh. This is a big step up from the usual blur you get fun options like the pea-shaped "Biotar" and the triangle-shaped "B-Speed Bokeh".

What I loved most: the edges are so clean. Older phones sometimes made portrait edges look fake, especially around hair. But with the V40 5G, the separation looks natural almost like shooting with a DSLR.

Pro Tip

For the most beautiful bokeh, don’t shoot in front of a plain wall. Try trees, leaves, or even night scenes with small lights in the background. The results are magical.

2. Focal Length Options (24mm, 35mm, 50mm)

Portrait Mode gives you three focal lengths to play with 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm. Normally you’d need three separate lenses for that, but here it’s all built-in.

50mm = perfect for creamy bokeh and close-up portraits

24mm / 35mm = better for portraits that also include the background or landscape

And with Eye Auto Focus, even if your subject moves, the camera locks onto the eyes automatically. Plus, after the shot, you can refocus or even adjust the blur strength. Just don’t over-blur keeping it natural always looks best.

3. Color Presets & Aura Light

The Portrait Mode also comes with Color Presets, so you can get stylish looks (like vintage tones or Orange & Teal) straight out of the camera without editing. Perfect for night portraits with city lights.

At night, the Aura Light (which continues from the previous V series) is super useful. You can even change its color to fit your vibe. Just a small tip: watch out for red-eye and make sure your subject isn’t moving too much in low light.

Final Thoughts

The vivo V40 5G surprised me it’s like having pro portrait tools in your pocket without needing an expensive camera. By day, natural light gives you amazing results, and at night, Aura Light makes sure your portraits shine.

I’m excited to keep exploring, and soon I’ll be trying out the vivo V60 in Myanmar. Can’t wait to share those shots with you all too.
