OriginOS is an
Android-based operating system developed by the Chinese technology company Vivo. It was first released in 2020 and is used on Vivo and iQOO smartphones, replacing Vivo's previous Funtouch OS. Vivo recently began its global rollout of OriginOS 6, based on Android 16, to international markets in October 2025.
Core pillars
Vivo built OriginOS around three main pillars:
- Smoothness: The Origin Smooth Engine optimizes core system components like computing, storage, and display for a more fluid user experience.
- Design: Inspired by simplicity and nature, the "Origin Design" system unifies visual elements, from dynamic animations to a new font called Vivo Sans.
- AI: The OS incorporates a range of powerful AI tools for daily tasks, creativity, and productivity.
Key features of OriginOS 6
The latest version of OriginOS, introduced in 2025, brings numerous new features, including:
- Origin Island: A contextual hub that uses the punch-hole camera area to display real-time updates and quick actions, similar to Apple's Dynamic Island.
- AI tools: A suite of AI-powered features for photo editing (retouch, erase, expand), writing assistance (creation, proofreading), and intelligent document processing (DocMaster).
- Smooth Engine: Significant performance optimizations that result in faster app launches, more stable frame rates, and quicker data loading.
- Cross-device connectivity: Features like Vivo Office Suite and One-Tap Transfer enable seamless file sharing and continuity across Vivo devices, PCs, and web platforms.
- Customization: A redesigned lock screen and home screen offer more customization options for widgets and layouts.
- Snap-Up Engine: Intelligently allocates computing power for high-demand actions, such as securing tickets online, to provide a faster checkout experience.
