Google is breaking the Apple walled garden.
In a blogpost that took everyone by surprise, Google announced that Quick Share (the built-in thing that comes with all Android devices) can you send and receive data from AirDrop!!
There is no way for me to explain this, but Apple's "ecosystem" in software is built around 3 features:
1. Blue Bubbles (iMessage)
2. AirDrop
3. Handoff
Blue bubbles never mattered outside the US anyway, but AirDrop was really useful to share photos. It's honestly so surprising to me that we went from Bluetooth straight to Google Drive albums as the way to share photos. A lot of you might remember apps like ShareIt, but those were never truly cross platform.
The megasmart folks at Google have somehow managed to build a secure, peer-to-peer connection with AirDrop by themselves (so this is most definitely news to Apple as well), and they've gone ahead and gotten a security certification on this already. (That's how they stopped Beeper's attempts to bring iMessage to everyone.)
So, how do you do it? Well, you don't do it just yet - unless you own a Google Pixel 10 series device. This will eventually come to other devices, but not just yet. Lets see when vivo phones come with the feature. Excited to try it first hand!!
