Every Indian state has its own unique traditions, language, attire, and festivals that reflect its rich cultural heritage. In Telangana, Bonalu stands out as a powerful symbol of our identity, devotion, and unity.

🔸 What is Bonalu?

Bonalu is a traditional Hindu festival dedicated to Goddess Mahakali, celebrated with great fervor during the month of Ashada (July–August). The word Bonam comes from Bhojanam, meaning a meal—symbolizing the food offered to the Goddess.

🔸 Why is Bonalu Celebrated?

It’s a heartfelt thanksgiving to the Goddess for fulfilling wishes and safeguarding people from diseases and misfortunes. Devotees carry decorated brass pots filled with rice, jaggery, curd, and neem leaves, offering them with deep devotion.

💃 Bonalu is not just a ritual; it is a vibrant expression of Telangana’s soul – seen in the colorful processions, traditional folk performances, devotional songs, women in graceful attire, the fierce energy of Pothuraju, and the thundering beats of the dappu drums. It brings communities together, uniting them in faith and festivity.

Let’s take pride in our roots and continue to celebrate the traditions that define us.
