The Kaveripattinam Angalamman Festival, held in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu, is a powerful and intense celebration of the fierce goddess Angalamman. It takes place annually on the day after Maha Shivaratri and is famously known for the ritual of Mayana Kollai (Looting the Graveyard).
The festival is characterized by extreme devotion and striking visuals:
The Kali Avatar: Devotees paint their faces and bodies in vibrant colors (often red and black) to resemble Goddess Kali, carrying weapons and wearing garlands to personify her divine fury.
